Hunting on Exmoor - the grey horses in the centre and left of the picture are both barefoot (the horse in the centre is 24 yrs old!).
Another barefoot horse is out of shot as the photo was taken from his back...
These horses are very surefooted and often have better traction than the shod horses.
They certainly don’t struggle to keep up, although it can be a challenge if you are trying to take a photo at the same time...
